December Book Giveaway

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I am finishing off the last of the sweet potato pie here as I write. Tomorrow, five mile run. And salad.

With winter fast upon us, I find myself craving comfort food often. This month's free book is The Berghoff Cafe Cookbook. Book provided by the nice folks at Andrews McMeel Publishing.

The book features familiar German foods with a twist, making for some unique recipes such as Brat, Kraut and Onion Pizza with Swiss Cheese and Caraway Crust as well as classics like Lyonnaise Potatoes. What I like about it is that it shows how to use leftovers creatively so you minimize food waste and save money while making family meals. Very practical.

  1. mmmmm ... leftover pie! I had the last slice of pumpkin pie and the last scrapings of whipped cream yesterday. What is that lovely alchemial process that renders leftovers sooooo much tastier? Is it time? Or the sneaky frisson of lifting a spoonful/smidgen from the plate in the fridge? Either way, I've agreed with the better half that he'll come home early tonight so I can have a run before we bath the girls.

    I ate at the Berghoff 35+ years ago and enjoyed it greatly. I noted with sadness that it closed recently, and was joyful when it reopened in a new incarnation. Sorry to say, there was one semi-German dish on the menu when I returned. The rest of the menu was as American as can be. (Gee, I don't expect to win a cookbook, somehow!)
